Technology is constantly finding new and improved ways to provide clearer vision without the use of glasses or contact lenses. One of the latest procedures is called LASEK (Laser Epithelial Keratomileusis). LASEK is a refractive procedure that is similar to LASIK. However, with LASEK, no microkeratome is used and only the very top layer of the cornea (epithelium) is used to make a protective corneal flap. The refractive surgeon then uses the excimer laser to reshape the cornea and correct your refractive error. Refractive surgeon Dr. Sambursky may decide that LASEK is a better option for a particular patient, especially if your eyes are too dry or your corneas are too thin for LASIK. Based on the individual situation, refractive surgeon Dr. Sambursky will recommend the surgery option that best suits the patient’s needs.

Refractive surgeon Dr. Sambursky is also trained in an exciting new refractive surgery procedure called implantable contact lenses. In this procedure, the refractive surgeon actually implants an intraocular lens inside the eye to change the way the patient sees. While this procedure is not yet available in the US, many refractive surgeons performing the procedure outside of the US have reported exceptionally good results.

If you want to improve your vision with LASIK or any other procedure, please contact Dr. Sambursky today!
